In korea, students learn english from korean teacher.I think that it is big problem. If teacher say just it is english,students can't speak english well. have to practically learn a english by native english teacher. My opinion is change a teacher who teach english.
Since your nickname is 'Unknown' I don't know who you are. First, don't get me wrong. I don't want to criticize your opinion, but I have a different idea. Yes, surely, there are some Korean English teachers who are not very skillful, but that doesn't mean that they are poor because they are non-native. Not all native English teachers are good. There are also many poor and not skillfull native teachers as well. The important thing is HOW we teach English, not WHO teach English.
Yes, Lily, you're right. It's one of the big problmes in Korea. Freire said it's banking education. (Teacher: Giver, Students: Receiver) It should be changed to problem posing education. (Teacher <-> Students) Ask questions a lot in class and always think critically, then you can change something.
in korea, korea students can't speak English during the lesson and outside. So, almost Korea students are afraid of English. Sdents need the experience that they sometimes talk with Foreigners and meet Foreigners. So, goverment should chance the experience.
Yes, Cindy, you're right. Since Korea is a EFL country, we don't have much chance to use English outside. One of the possible ways to increase the exposure is to use real things like newspapers or video clips. Anyway thanks for your posting.

Bw-Ryu, English only class isn't really effective in a classroom where all the students and the teacher share the same mother tongue. But you're right. The teacher should encourage the students to speak English as much as possible. But it doesn't need be a foreign teacher.
I think that Korea English is very difficult. Because school teach English for only 수능 test. So, school must teach essential word and simple text English that use often in our life(everyday).
Jason, yes, you're right. We have a big exam for the university and since it's based on reading and listening, it makes a lot of problems. Like you said, English classes should be conducted not only for the test but also for the real use outside as well since language is a just tool to do something else not the object to study itself.
I think many Korean students only learn English for testing. So They couldn't have chance to study speaking and writing. Thus it is included that speaking and writing in test. And curriculum is changed. I thingk it is better to includ speaking and writing rather than grammer.
It's not easy to learn new other's language for everyone. So in Korea, they have a test to check student's level. However the test is so overheating that the test's purpose is going for wrong way. We can fine better way to be good at english. First, there is a solution for having more chance to speak english than now. We have to include speaking and listening class in english classes at least. But that needs private lessons for everyone.
Charlie, I agree with you. Here in Korea, many students just focus on getting higher score rather than improving their language productive skills. There should be more various tests to assess students' level exactly. And Linda, I strongly agree with your opinion. Yes! i think that problem is korea English eudcation system. Korea English education sys only focus on tests. So korean student learn grammar, voca and reading for test. korea goverment have to change this education system.
I guess everyone seems to agree that we have a problem with the test for the university. It might take a long time to change it. Let's see what will happen...
We study for test(read book mainly and studied) I think that need english language training that can talk naturally. I want to talk in English, but speech did not come outㅠㅠ
